Guildford Peloton Mini Strava XChallenge #2 Week 2 Revised Result

Craig S:  A bit miffed that since a wet ride on Saturday I haven't been able to get my Garmin to be recognised by my laptop to upload the data. (I know you all in the UK have a great deal of sympathy, knowing that wet here in California is generally wet, and not particularly cold...)

I did ride both Saturday and Sunday, although Sunday was a short sprint with only 400m or so of climb.  It will get there eventually I'm sure.

Craig S:  Interesting, now that my Garmin has dried out, I uploaded the data, both to Strava and Garmin connect. Can I get a re-count? or have I missed the boat? (after Saturday riding - oops no, I won't go there)

I did however note that when I turned on "Elevation Corrections" in Garmin connect, Sunday's ride nearly doubled in climb! What's that all about? Anyone else notice that? And can I get that one counted?

Duncan S:  Elevation correction?  I wondered why Strava posted a different figure to what was on my Garmin. It has been confusing me (and it isn’t hard to do that) as it always adds 10% or so (I know my Garmin reads less metres than other peoples from experience on previous group rides, and it always read less than my Polar CS600 which bugged me when I first got my Garmin).  I assume I must have elevation correction turned “on” on my Strava account. I have not downloaded to Garmin Connect recently so can’t comment.

David C:  The Commisaires have reviewed Craig’s appeal and, in true TdF tradition, have re-written the rules to keep him in the race.

The revised results are below. No change in the jersey positions but sorry Michael…you are now the Flamme Rouge…

Duncan S:  Not fair. I had already my blog and published it and now I will have to go back and re-edit it. And to top it all I have fallen down a position.  Who ever heard of a Garmin being affected by water or it raining in California which is famous for its good weather and as a consequence its fires?

Mike R:  I think I experienced satellite issues on Sunday. My 160km ride on Sunday only showed up as 60km. I looped Box Hill so many times that I have my own grooved track now. Can the Commisaires review please?? (The groove is visible from space).

David / Stato / The Commissaires :  Good to see you boys haven’t lost your competitive edge.  Case reviewed and…rejected. There is no right of appeal - the decision of the Commissaires is final. You can use your sense of injustice to fuel your determination to put in some big rides this weekend.

I was going to ask the Commissaires to award me and Justin extra Green Jersey points for finishing 30th and 31st out of 268 participants in the Wiggle Sportive, but I’m a modest chap and don’t like to draw attention to myself… J

Michael C:  This is outrageous!  As a relative newcomer to the world of Lycra, group sets and Garmin’s, I had always thought that the rumors of underhand deals, pre-selected winners and the lack of a “level playing field” in cycling were all exaggerated. And here it is, laid bare!  I’m off to email Paul Kimmage – it is not just at elite level that this sport needs cleaned up!   This email will be stuck up in the proverbial dressing room before this Sundays cycle!
