Guildford Peloton Mini Strava Challenge - Week 12 Results

The final week of Challenge #1 proved to be the lowest scoring since Week 1. Mind you that was back in the balmy days of January not the deep freeze of March, at least for those unfortunate enough to be in the UK. Steve just pipped Craig to win his 9th stage with Craig easily winning the Polka Dot jersey this week with two impressive climbs in the heat of SoCal.

On GC, there were no last minute changes, so huge congrats toSteve who won all of the jerseys. He can only wear the Yellow, so the Green points jersey went to me and the Polka Dots for best climber went to Mike. Justin held on to his 3rd place podium finish.

Since I clearly have too much time on my hands at work I added a couple of new stats - you’ll see that Craig had the highest “hilly index” - a simple measure of ft climbed per mile. Interesting to note that Steve, Justin and me had the lowest scores here and we were all on the podium so basically that tells us that we had lots of easy miles on the flatlands of Herts / Bucks… Jon had the highest average ride length of 67.1 miles whilst also having the second highest hilly index - so quality not quantity is clearly his formula for success later this year.

Challenge #2 starts today for 12 weeks, same rules as before. Those preparing for serious challenges this summer will be (should be !!) ramping up their training so expect to see some big numbers, provided of course that the bl**dy snow goes away…

Good luck guys!

Mike R:  Well done the top 3. As I always say though, phase 2 is the most important phase (unless I do poorly in it, in which case I will have excuses aplenty).  Good job Stato!

Michael C:  Well done to the podium group (and to Stato for all the analysis).

Detailed review of miles / total climbing is one thing but the record books only really focus on GC winners and stage winners. Steve obviously wins on both counts (well done) but I’m pleased to note that I won exactly the same number of stages as my more experience brother!!  Roll on phase 2 where I hope to do better!
