Duncan to All - So, as
I downloaded my Garmin into Strava this evening I see you all got the drop on
me again despite me trying underhand tactics this week.
On Saturday I had to go to Kingston to the optician again and so I cycled to get in an extra 8 miles. Then Sunday I wheel hugged Chris Froome (well, not actually Froome, but Mike R in his alter ego) who dragged me out to Windsor and back. Forty miles of wheel hugging having to call him back each time he dropped me. Do you know how much effort that takes? Just to get a little extra, after Froome left me at Thames Ditton, I took the long way home to get some extra miles. I was on my knees that last couple of miles but I managed over 50 miles and 500 metres of climb.
Then, this evening I went to download to Strava and I see you have all put in a tremendous effort to stay ahead of me. Glad to see that you all heard the team lecture from David Brailsford, I am team leader, I will be leading the Team in the Tour but it is good to see you all putting in a tremendous training effort to support my 2013 Tour win.
Roll on this weeks results.

Duncan to All - I have done some further analysis to try to move myself up the chart, to
no avail. Unless I rank by number of miles wheel-hugging nothing seems to move
me up (I even considered the “White Jersey” for the youngest rider but I fall
into the bottom two there as well). However,
this new analysis would move Jon up to first as longest average ride and feet
climbed per ride but David is still there in second for length and Craig second
for climbing.
It seems from
this analysis that the short sharp rides seem to be the most effective. I would
ride to the station each morning if it wasn’t opposite my house.
Jon to Duncan - I like your thinking Duncan – average feet climbed per ride looks
good to me. That leaves me with a
conundrum – either follow Steve’s lead and start recording daily commutes to
add to my mileage, or stick to occasional hilly rides……….
Steve to All - My
home to office distance is 0.99 miles, so to increase that distance is simple.
You just need to set off a bit earlier and take an indirect route! Simples. As the days get longer I'm looking forward to
bring more creative about my commuting. Thanks
to all for the competition. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Justin to All - Glad to see this is not a competitive bunch – much! I can vouch for
the fact that Hertfordshire was not windless this weekend, and I’m sure David
benefitted more from having me as a windbreak than I did from sitting behind
him. Commuting is one of the only ways
I’ll increase my ranking, even though it’s only 3.9 miles each way – need to
get some night rides in too…
Michael to David - Perhaps we could swap house one weekend? You can try and fit in your
cycling around looking after your 3 year old nephew and I’ll have plenty of
time to go for a couple of nice long cycles in the flat, windless surrounds of
Hertfordshire!! Looking like I need to
build in some brownie points to get most of Sunday off for an epic ride!!
